Norwegian Railway Lines – Geography & Routes

Norway has a relatively small but very dramatic railway network. Railroading with JM covers several of the most important main lines and regional routes – all recorded from the driver’s cab on real trains. This page gives a geographic overview and links to full cab ride playlists on each line.

Main long-distance lines

Dovre Line – Dovrebanen

The Dovre Line is the classic main line between the Oslo region and Trondheim, running through valleys, forests and over the Dovrefjell mountain plateau via Dombås.

On Railroading with JM you can watch real cab rides on the Dovre Line between Dombås and Trondheim, and on the southern part between Oslo and Dombås.

Nordland Line – Nordlandsbanen

The Nordland Line runs from Trondheim to Bodø and is the longest railway line in Norway. It crosses the Arctic Circle and offers wild scenery, long valleys and changing light conditions.

Røros Line – Rørosbanen

The Røros Line links Hamar and Støren via the historic mining town of Røros. It is known for deep forests, wooden stations and strong winter scenes with heavy snow.

Rauma Line – Raumabanen

The Rauma Line connects Dombås with Åndalsnes at the fjord. It is one of the most scenic railways in Norway, passing the Rauma river, Trollveggen and the famous Kylling Bridge.

Cab rides on this line show steep mountains, tight curves and a lot of classic postcard views.

Meråker Line – Meråkerbanen

The Meråker Line runs from Hell (near Trondheim Airport) to the Swedish border at Storlien. It climbs from fjord level up into the mountains, with forests, lakes and border traffic.

Trønderbanen – Trøndelag Commuter Rail

Trønderbanen is the commuter network around Trondheim, serving both local passengers and longer regional journeys in Central Norway. The line includes fjord edges, farmland and town approaches.

On the channel you will find shorter, punchy trips as well as full journeys on different sections of the network.
